dGPS SERVICES
Real-time Differential GPS DCI subscription-based broadcast is available
in Istanbul, and can also be made available for other major cities.

WHAT IS GPS / RDS / DGPS?
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a constellation of 24 satellites
maintained by the U.S. Department of Defense. From these satellites, users
equipped with the appropriate receiver equipment can determine their position
anywhere in the world to an accuracy of 100 meters.
WHAT IS R(B)DS?
The Radio Data System (RDS) is a European developed standard for transmitting
data over Broadcast FM subcarrier. It allows the transmission of station
call signs, which are displayed on RDS capable radios. It also standardizes
the transmission of paging, messaging, radio text and provides a medium
for the transmission of traffic information and Differential GPS. RDS
is already implemented in most European countries, and is expected to
be operational worldwide. A compatible variant of this standard, RBDS,
has been approved for the United States. There are already more than 200
stations broadcasting RBDS in the United States.
WHAT IS DGPS?
Due to ionospheric and tropospheric delays, and errors deliberately added
by the Department of Defense, GPS can only be relied upon to give accuracies
of approximately 100 meters. However, if a GPS receiver is installed in
a known, surveyed location, then the error inherent in the GPS solution
can be determined by comparing the calculated range to the satellite with
the measured range. This correction can then be broadcast in real time
to other GPS receivers, improving their accuracy to the 1-10 meter range,
depending upon the quality of the satellite constellation, terrain and
the GPS receiver.
